ANTISANA .– Antisana Ecological Reserve is significant in several ways. Not only does it provide refuge for one of the largest concentrations of Andean Condors left in Ecuador (Condor's Santuary), but it also provides much of Quito`s drinking water. Officially reconized as a national reserve only in 1994, its 120,000 hectares (296,400 acres) are now some of the most rigorously protected natural areas in Ecuador. The snow-covered top of Antisana is at 5758m (18,886 ft), and it is entirely included in the reserve. The boundaries extend down to 300m (984 ft) elevation on the eastern slopes, where healthy populations of Spectacled Bears and Mountain Tapirs still exist.

Definitely, this mountain does not have a lot of tourists to visit around the year; but what it makes wonderful is the contact with undisturbed nature and away from crowded-tourist places, beautiful andean scenery with flocks of animals and birds such us: black-faced ibis, plumbeous sierra-finch, noble snipe, american golden-plover, curved-billed tinamou, american kestrel, Harris's hawk, etc. Those birds for SURE you will enjoy watching them in their natural habitat.

Another reason is the good road access (asfalt) in very good conditions absolutely better than Cotopaxi National Park (the most visited Park in mainland Ecuador), this is a trip that for sure you do not have to miss, it is just a worthy glimpse between 3200m to 4100m.a.s.l.
