(59 miles) north of Quito with a population of 45,000 people; Otavalo sounds like a day to INTERACT with local indigenous sellers, your shopping day and practice some Spanish.

A town of great popularity among the tourists, is internationally famous for the fairs on Saturday (also on weekdays). The crafts are sold in a variety of exquisite coloring. Fabrics of embroidered wool and ceramic are freely sold. They are in great demand by the tourists. Wool coats with attractive designs, blankets, woolen belts and scarves among others are the preference of every visitor to this market. Without doubt the better propaganda that Otavalo has is its people.
